About Department.
Welcome to Department of Construction and Real Estate Management
The Department was established in 2015 to meet the increasing demand in the real estate sector in Kenya which has been growing at a rapid rate.
The Department has two programs.
Tagline: The departmental goal is to train, conduct research and publish on matters related to the efficient performance within the construction, real estate and valuation sectors.
Summary
The programmes specific objectives are to:

- Provide students with sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enable them think analytically and conceptually in finding solutions to problems in building and civil engineering construction.
- Train students to provide independent, objective, accurate and reliable capital/operating cost assessments for investment funding and project administration and control;
- Create the capability to analyze investments and developments for the guidance of project owners, financiers and contractors.
- Provide training in specialized skills and techniques which students to interact with other professionals in the construction and real estate sector;
- Train students on techniques for oversight in the organization, scheduling, and implementation of land and building assets

Graduates from programs will be engaged on a variety of fields in both the public and private sector at county and national level, these include international organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations ,Real Estate firms public and private institutions like Banks, Contractors ,Quantity Surveyors offices, Architectural firms as project managers and property management professionals.

Professional affiliation and Accreditation
Students graduating from programs in this department are eligible for membership in the AAK, IQSK and ISK. For professional practice and licensing, they are registered and licensed by the BORAQs, VRB and ERB. Internationally the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredits construction and property management professionals.

In addition to the highly qualified staff, the Department has two studios which have drawing boards suited for maximum A1 paper sizes. A computer laboratory for the School of Architecture and the Built Environment, with internet access is also available to students.

It is an honor from me to congratulate you as you gather with faculty members, family and friends to celebrate your much deserved 4 years achievement. Having been with you from the onset of your studies in this esteemed university, I would confess that your road to this success has been bumpy and has put your resilience to test. You get admitted in 2016 a pioneers in your specific programmes, BSc. Construction Management & BSc. Real Estate as first borns you have been the trailblazers with minimal peer coaching in an isolated Ruiru Campus. You leant to maximally utilize the minimal resources available and with a lot of creativity and initiative you supplemented what was offered to you at the time.
As pioneers you lifted the burner of our new built environment programmes in BSc. Construction Management & BSc. Real Estate and created awareness of our existence to the larger Kenyatta University community, nationwide and in international arena. As you graduate today, I am proud to announce that there is evidence that our two programmes are well known and are competitive worldwide.
In your own initiative you created strong links with construction industry stakeholders through the industrial attachments and by enrolment to membership of your relevant professional bodies that have well prepared you for the professional clubs you are joining today. The local universities and international ones are ready for your lifelong learning with variety of specialists of postgraduate programmes on offer and professional courses to supplement your degree and sharpen your skills for world of work. The research and design projects you undertook coupled with the industrial exposure embedded in your course of study have adequately prepared you on how to create employment for yourself and others for economic growth of our country.
In conclusion, let’s not be ignorant of the fact that you are leaving the university at a time that the region and world economy arrow is facing south. The times are hard to everyone and therefore you must brace yourself with resilience, determination to overcome adversity, do not succumb to failure and be ready to take risks in life.
