Ms. Alice Menya is an Urban Planning and Management specialist. She holds a Master of Urban Management
and Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Nairobi. She is a licensed Urban
Planner with extensive experience in the preparation of various county and urban/municipal plans; development
control; and planning policy formulation, both in the public and private sector. She is a corporate member of the
Kenya Institute of Planners. She is also a member of the Kenya Red Cross Society.
Her research and career interests are in urban risk governance, urban resilience and urban informalities.
Specifically, she is interested in shaping urban discourse relating to institutionalization of resilience building in the
governance of critical urban infrastructures in the context of urban informality, to advance social inclusion in
