Research (PhD Project)

  • Towards More Mixed Uses for Resource Efficient Urban Transition in Fast Growing Towns: Empirical Evidence form Nakuru Town.

The study is guided by Conflicting Rationalities in that despite urban planning being largely informed by rigid mono functional planning regulations in Kenya, Mixed Use Developments seem to occur beyond planning and with the everyday city making dynamics. With the heightened concerns by urban planning authorities to promote Mixed Use environments, the study aims at exploring informal Mixed Uses as sites to build an understanding the phenomena of Mixed Use for enhancing resource efficient urban transitions in Kenya.
